Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Decorating Ingredients
  • food coloring (various colors for decoration)
  • royal icing (for decorating)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  6. Divide the cookie dough into separate bowls, depending on how many colors you want to create. Add a few drops of food coloring into each bowl and mix until you achieve your desired color.
  7. Roll the colored doughs into small balls or use cookie cutters to create flower shapes.
Baking and Decorating
  1. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10–15 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool before decorating them with royal icing to create flowers or whatever design you fancy.

Notes

Chill the dough for easier handling if it feels too soft. You can experiment with flavors like almond extract or lemon zest for a twist. Use piping bags for decorative icing.
