Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Can replace half with unsweetened applesauce for a lighter version.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Toppings
  • 1 cup M&Ms (plus extra for topping)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring they are fully incorporated after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
  6. Gently fold in 3/4 cup of M&Ms into the brownie batter.
Baking
  1. Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle reserved M&Ms on top.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Allow the brownies to cool in the dish for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, refrigerated for up to a week, or frozen for up to three months. Reheat in the microwave or oven for best results.
