Ingredients

Tuna Mixture
  • 1 can 1 can (about 5 oz) of tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a healthier twist)
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup diced red onion
Assembling the Sandwiches
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella work great)
  • 4 slices 4 slices of bread (your favorites—white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • Butter Butter for grilling

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, diced celery, and red onion. Mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Assembly
  1. Take two slices of bread and spread a generous amount of the tuna mixture evenly on top. Top it with a heaping amount of shredded cheese before placing the other slice of bread on top to form a sandwich.
Grilling
  1. On medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter in a skillet. Once melted, add the assembled sandwiches to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, carefully flipping when the bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
Serving
  1. Once both sides are crisp and the cheese is gooey, remove from the skillet, slice, and serve hot with your favorite sides!

Notes

For perfecting your Tuna Melt, try different cheeses like Gouda or pepper jack, incorporate add-ins like capers, pickles, or lemon juice, and avoid rushing the grilling process for a golden exterior.
