Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
For Layering
  • to taste chocolate ganache or whipped cream for layering between the cake layers

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and line your round cake pans with parchment paper to ensure easy release.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  4. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy—this will take about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture while alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.
Baking
  1. Pour a thin layer of batter into the prepared pans, spreading evenly. Bake for about 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Repeat this process until all the batter is baked.
Assembly
  1. Once cooled, start stacking your layers with generous amounts of ganache or whipped cream between each one.
  2. Finish by frosting the top layer and decorating as desired.
  3. Allow the cake to chill for an hour before serving.

Notes

For best results, bake each layer thinly for a traditional cake texture. Chill the layers in the fridge if stacking becomes difficult.
