Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the chopped cabbage, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, cooking for another 5-7 minutes until the cabbage is slightly softened.
- In a separate saucepan, mix the flour with a little bit of milk to create a smooth paste. Gradually add the remaining milk while stirring over medium heat until the sauce thickens.
- Once the sauce is thick, pour it over the sautéed cabbage mixture. Stir in half of your shredded cheese until melted and combined.
- Transfer the cheesy cabbage mixture to a greased casserole dish. Spread evenly and top with the remaining shredded cheese.
Baking
- Place the casserole into your preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving hot, garnished with additional herbs if desired.
