- In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, water, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and chili garlic sauce. If you like a thicker sauce, you can also add cornstarch to this mixture.
- Place the saucepan on medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, add the minced garlic and diced chili pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally.
- Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool completely. Transfer it to a clean jar and store in the refrigerator. It should be good for at least a couple of weeks!
Notes
For a sweeter sauce, increase sugar or add honey. For added spice, try chili flakes or cayenne pepper. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks and reheat gently if needed.
