Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/4 cup honey Can substitute with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper For seasoning the chicken.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking.
  • to garnish Chopped green onions

Method

Preparation
  1. Prep the Chicken: Wash and pat the chicken dry with paper towels. If using chicken breasts, butterfly them for quicker cooking. Season both sides with black pepper and salt.
  2. Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder.
  3. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken in a bowl or a zip-lock bag and pour the marinade over it. Let it marinate for 15-30 minutes if you have time.
Cooking
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces and sear for about 5-6 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Flip each piece and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and is beautifully caramelized.
Final Touches
  1. Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice it or serve it whole, garnished with chopped green onions.
Serving
  1. Plate the Sweet and Spicy Honey Pepper Chicken alongside your favorite sides.

Notes

Storing: Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet over low-medium heat for best results. Use a damp paper towel when microwaving to retain moisture.
