Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Can experiment with different types of flour.
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup warm water Ensure it's warm but not hot.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a rough dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf, placing it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) during this time.
  8. Once the second rise is complete, place the loaf in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, slice and serve.

Notes

Store leftover bread wrapped in foil or in an airtight container for 2-3 days at room temperature. For longer storage, freeze sliced bread for up to three months.
