Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, bring about 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into four equal parts. Roll each part into long ropes and cut them into 1-inch pieces.
- Boil the dough pieces in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and drain on paper towels.
- Arrange the pretzel bites on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving with your favorite dips!
Notes
To store leftover soft pretzel bites, place them in an airtight container, and they’ll stay fresh for up to 2 days at room temperature. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
