Preparation
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, and activated yeast mixture.
- Mix until the dough begins to come together. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes until it doubles in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
- Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes until they puff up.
- During the second rise, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving them warm with your favorite butter.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, wrap in aluminum foil and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
