Ingredients

Dough ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, and activated yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until the dough begins to come together. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes until it doubles in size.
  5. After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  6. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes until they puff up.
  7. During the second rise, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving them warm with your favorite butter.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, wrap in aluminum foil and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
