Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or stew meat, cut into thin strips Any halal beef cut will work.
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced Slice thinly for the best texture.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 3 cups beef broth, low-sodium
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Ensure halal.
  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or your choice)
  • as needed fresh parsley, for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by slicing the onions and beef if you haven’t done so already. Mince the garlic and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 10-12 minutes until they become caramelized and golden brown. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
  2. Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the beef strips. Cook for 5-7 minutes, searing them until browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Allow to cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 15 minutes so the flavors meld together.
  5. While the beef and onion mixture simmers, cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. Once the beef mixture is done simmering, stir in the cooked noodles, ensuring they soak up the delicious sauce.
  7. Sprinkle cheese on top of the beef and noodles. Cover and let everything cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt beautifully.
  8. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

To enhance flavor, don't rush the onions. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
