  • 2 large large apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Tart apples work best for balanced flavor.
  • 1 can crescent roll dough Used to wrap the apple slices.
  • 1 cup sugar For the syrup.
  • 1 cup butter Melted for the syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds flavor to the syrup.
  • 1 cup Sprite or lemon-lime soda Creates a bubbly sauce while baking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into quarters.
  3. Place a piece of apple in the center of each crescent roll triangle, then roll the dough around the apple, sealing the seams.
Making the Syrup
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the sugar and cinnamon until dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and pour the mixture over the wrapped apples.
Baking
  1. Pour the Sprite around the edges of the baking dish.
  2. Bake in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden and the apples are tender.
Serving
  1. Let cool for a few minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
