Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter
Optional Serving
  • as needed vanilla ice cream for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's nice and hot when the dumplings go in.
  2. Peel and core the apples, making sure to remove any seeds. Set aside.
  3. Roll out the pie crust on a floured surface. Cut into squares large enough to wrap around each apple.
  4. Place an apple in the center of each pie crust square. Fold the crust up and over the apple, pinching to seal tightly.
Cooking
  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, and then remove from heat.
  2. Place the wrapped dumplings in a greased baking dish. Pour the warm syrup over the dumplings. Dot with butter for extra flavor.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Notes

Choose a mix of tart and sweet apples for added depth of flavor. Chill dough if it feels too soft before rolling.
