  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cheese Layer
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped (optional)

  • 12 lasagna noodles cooked according to package instructions

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large pot
  • Mixing bowls
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Foil

Method

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in the garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, and parsley. Mix until well blended.
  6. Cook the Lasagna Noodles:
  7. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and lay them flat on a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  8. Assemble the Lasagna:
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of the baking dish.
  11. Add a layer of noodles, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, then meat sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with meat sauce on top.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  13. Bake:
  14. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  15. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  16. Rest and Serve:
  17. Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
