  • 1 medium potato (Russet or Yukon Gold) Choose Yukon Gold or Russet for best results.
  • Salt Optional, for serving.
  • Butter or olive oil Optional, for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash the potato thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
  2. Use a fork to poke several holes around the potato to allow steam to escape.
Cooking
  1. Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate and microwave on high for about 5 minutes.
  2. Check for doneness by inserting a fork or knife; it should go through easily. If not, microwave for another minute at a time until done.
  3. Once done, carefully remove the potato and let it rest for a minute.
  4. Cut the potato open, fluff the insides with a fork, and add salt, butter, or olive oil as desired.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, microwave for 1-2 minutes, wrapped in a damp paper towel for best results.
