Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 cup ground chicken Can be substituted with ground turkey or beef.
  • 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Ensure it's Halal-certified.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • to taste pinch salt and pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour and water. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the ground chicken, chopped mushrooms, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Shaping and Cooking
  1. Divide the rested dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Roll each ball into a thin circle, roughly 3 inches in diameter.
  2. Place about 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the dough up around the filling, pinching and twisting to create a 'money bag' shape.
  3. Prepare a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Place the dumplings inside, ensuring they’re not touching. Steam over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through.
  4. Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer, serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce, and enjoy the deliciousness!

Notes

Avoid overcooking the dumplings to prevent them from becoming tough. Resting the dough is crucial for easier rolling. Store remaining dumplings in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze before steaming for up to 2 months.
