Lo Mein Recipe

This easy Lo Mein recipe brings the flavors of your favorite takeout to your kitchen! Packed with tender noodles, fresh vegetables, and a savory sauce, it’s a quick and delicious meal for any night of the week.

Equipment

  • Wok or large skillet
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Small mixing bowl

Ingredients
  

  • For the Sauce:
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • For the Lo Mein:
  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles or spaghetti as a substitute
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup bell peppers sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • ½ cup snap peas
  • 1 cup protein of choice chicken, shrimp, beef, tofu, or pork
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • Sesame seeds optional, for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Cook the Noodles:
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, ginger, and garlic. Set aside.
  • Cook the Protein:
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add your chosen protein and cook until fully cooked and golden. Remove from the wok and set aside.
  • Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
  • Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the wok. Toss in the carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, and snap peas. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  • Combine Everything:
  • Return the cooked protein to the wok and add the cooked noodles. Pour the sauce over the mixture and toss everything together until well-coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.
  • Garnish and Serve:
  • Transfer the Lo Mein to serving plates. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.
