Ingredients

For the Cheese Sticks
  • 12 ounces mozzarella cheese (string cheese or block)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian or plain)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Marinara sauce (for serving, optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. If using a block of mozzarella, cut it into sticks about 1/2-inch wide and 3 to 4 inches long. String cheese works great too—just leave them whole!
  2. In a shallow bowl, place the flour mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a touch of salt and pepper.
Breading
  1. Dip each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off the excess, then into the egg wash, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. For extra crunch, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
Frying
  1. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat, ensuring it's hot enough to sizzle when you add the cheese sticks. Fry them in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve your Irresistible Mozzarella Cheese Sticks warm with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.

Notes

To ensure your cheese sticks are a hit every time, consider using fresh mozzarella for the best melting experience. Chill the coated sticks before frying for less mess and better results. Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at 350°F for frying. Feel free to experiment with different breadcrumbs or spices for added flavor.
