  • 12 ounces mozzarella cheese sticks string cheese works great
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1.5 cups breadcrumbs preferably Italian-style
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: marinara sauce or other dipping sauces

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by cutting the mozzarella cheese sticks in half. Smaller pieces make for easier dipping.
  2. Set up your dipping station with three separate bowls: flour seasoned with salt and pepper, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Take each mozzarella piece and dip it first in the flour, then in the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off, and finally coat it in breadcrumbs.
Cooking
  1. In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once sizzling, carefully place a few cheese sticks into the oil. Fry them for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
  2. Once fried to perfection, use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese sticks and let them drain on paper towels.
  3. Serve warm with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Store leftover cheese sticks in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For reheating, bake in the oven at 375°F for 10-15 minutes until hot and crispy. To freeze, freeze un-fried cheese sticks on a baking sheet before placing them in a freezer-safe bag. They’ll keep for up to 3 months.
