Hummus Recipe

This creamy, classic hummus recipe is easy to make and bursting with flavor. Perfect as a dip, spread, or side dish, this recipe will be your go-to for any occasion!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas, drained and rinsed (reserve 2–3 tbsp liquid)
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • 2 tbsp olive oil plus more for serving
  • 2 –3 tbsp fresh lemon juice adjust to taste
  • 1 clove garlic or ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 2 –3 tbsp cold water
  • Paprika parsley, or sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Equipment

  • Food processor or high-powered blender
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Spatula
  • Serving bowl

Method
 

  1. Prepare the chickpeas:
  2. If desired, remove the skins from the chickpeas for a smoother texture. This step is optional but will result in a creamier hummus.
  3. Blend the base ingredients:
  4. In a food processor, combine the tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt. Process until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
  5. Add the chickpeas:
  6. Add the chickpeas to the food processor and process for about 2 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed.
  7. Adjust the texture:
  8. While processing, slowly add the reserved chickpea liquid or cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the hummus reaches your desired consistency.
  9. Taste and adjust:
  10. Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning with more salt, lemon juice, or garlic if needed.
  11. Serve:
  12. Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with paprika, parsley, or sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation.
