Ingredients

For the Brownies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks) melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Cookie Dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preheat the Oven
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Make the Brownie Base
  1. In a large mixing bowl, melt 1 cup of butter. Once melted, add 2 cups of granulated sugar and mix until smooth. Then, add 4 eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until everything is well combined.
Bake the Brownie Base
  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
Prepare the Cookie Dough
  1. In a bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of softened butter, 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Finish the Cookie Dough
  1. Gradually add 1 cup of flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, mixing until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
Assemble the Layers
  1. Once the brownies have baked and cooled for about 10-15 minutes, drop spoonfuls of cookie dough on top of the brownie base.
Final Bake
  1. Return the pan to the oven for an additional 10-12 minutes, until the cookie dough is set but still soft.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. Serve with your favorite toppings, if desired!
