Grilled Cheese Recipe

Make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich with this easy recipe! Crispy golden bread and gooey melted cheese come together in a timeless comfort food favorite.

Equipment

  • Nonstick skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread white, sourdough, or your favorite variety
  • 2 –3 slices of cheese cheddar, American, or any melty cheese
  • 1 –2 tablespoons butter softened

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread:
  • Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. This will help the bread achieve that golden, crispy texture.
  • Assemble the Sandwich:
  • Place one slice of bread butter-side down in the skillet. Layer the cheese slices on top, then cover with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
  • Heat the Skillet:
  • Preheat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
  • Cook the Sandwich:
  • Place the sandwich in the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes on one side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Flip the sandwich and cook for another 2–3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the other side is golden.
  • Serve:
  • Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing it in half. Serve warm, preferably with a bowl of tomato soup or a side of pickles.
