Fried Apples Recipe

Sweet, cinnamon-spiced fried apples are an easy, delicious side or dessert! These tender, caramelized apples are perfect for breakfast, dinner, or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji are best, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Peeler and cutting board

Method

  1. Prepare the Apples
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into about ¼-inch thick slices for even cooking.
  3. Melt the Butter
  4. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it starts to bubble.
  5. Add the Apples and Sugar
  6. Add the sliced apples to the skillet and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to coat the apples in the buttery, sugary mixture.
  7. Cook the Apples
  8. Sauté the apples for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re tender and caramelized but not mushy. If using, add the vanilla extract in the last minute of cooking.
  9. Serve
  10. Remove from heat and serve warm. These fried apples can be enjoyed on their own, as a side, or as a topping for various dishes.
