Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate bars or chips
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Puff Pastry:
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch square. Cut the sheet into 4 equal rectangles.
  • Add the Chocolate:
  • Place 1–2 tablespoons of chocolate near one short edge of each rectangle. You can use chocolate chips, broken chocolate bars, or even chocolate hazelnut spread.
  • Roll the Croissants:
  • Starting from the edge with the chocolate, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Place the rolled pastries seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Egg Wash:
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk. Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash to create a golden, shiny finish.
  • Bake:
  • Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
  • Cool and Dust:
  • Allow the pastries to cool slightly on the baking sheet before dusting them with powdered sugar for an elegant touch.
  • Serve:
  • Enjoy warm for the ultimate experience, as the chocolate inside will be perfectly gooey.
