Ingredients

For the Steak Marinade
  • 1 lb flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
For Assembling the Bowls
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown) Keep warm
  • to taste sliced green onion For topping
  • to taste shredded carrots For topping
  • to taste shredded cabbage For topping
  • to taste spicy sauce (Sriracha or gochujang)
  • sesame seeds For garnish

Method

Marination
  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Add the sliced steak, making sure it’s well coated. Cover and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to an hour in the fridge.
Cook Rice
  1. While the steak is marinating, cook your rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
Cook Steak
  1. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Cook the steak for 3-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked to your liking.
Assemble Bowls
  1. In a bowl, layer a generous scoop of rice, add the cooked steak, and then top with your desired veggies.
Garnish & Serve
  1. Drizzle with spicy sauce and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For a refreshing side, pair with cucumber salad or kimchi. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for about 3 days.
