Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it bubbles up.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of the flour and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, warm milk, and egg until combined.
- Once the yeast is active, pour it into the dry ingredients along with the wet mixture. Carefully mix until a dough begins to form.
- Sprinkle the remaining flour onto a clean surface and knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place your dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- After rising, punch the dough down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the rolls again and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly, then enjoy them warm—perhaps with a dab of butter!
Notes
For the best results, ensure your yeast is proofed correctly and avoid skipping the first rise for optimal texture. You can use whole wheat flour as a healthier alternative, but it may create a denser roll.
