Method
 

Caramelizing the Onions
  1. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, soft, and fragrant (approximately 10-15 minutes). Set aside to cool slightly.
Creating the Base
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and mayonnaise. Stir well until smooth and creamy.
Seasoning the Dip
  1. Add in the garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
Combining and Chilling
  1. Fold in the caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
