Ingredients

Beef Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves, fresh
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
Wrapping
  • Lettuce leaves for wrapping (Iceberg or Butter Lettuce work great!)
  • to taste chili sauce for dipping (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Once hot, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
Cooking
  1. Once the beef is browned and no longer pink, add the minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Stir well for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.
  2. Reduce the heat to lower, and gently fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves. Cook for an additional minute until the basil wilts, releasing its fragrant aroma.
Assembling
  1. Remove the skillet from heat. Lay out a lettuce leaf, adding a generous scoop of the beef-basil mixture onto the center. Carefully roll it up like a burrito, tucking in the sides as you go.
Serving
  1. Serve warm alongside a small dish of chili sauce for dipping. Enjoy the burst of flavors that encapsulate each bite!

Notes

You can replace ground beef with ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option. Ensure your skillet is properly heated for better browning of the meat. Do not overfill the rolls.
