  • 1 lb ground beef Make sure it’s a Halal-certified variety.
  • 1 medium onion, diced Adds a sweet and savory flavor.
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced Provides crunch and color.
  • 1 cup sloppy joe sauce A staple for that iconic flavor.
  • 2 cups cooked rice You can use white or brown rice based on your preference.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your favorite cheese for that gooey finish.
  • to taste salt and pepper Enhance the flavors.
  • optional fresh parsley for garnish Adds a fresh touch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add in the diced onion and bell pepper. Continue to sauté until the vegetables become tender and translucent, around 3-4 minutes.
  4. Pour in the sloppy joe sauce and mix well. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice with the beef mixture. Stir thoroughly until evenly mixed.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish, spreading evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top and place in the oven.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can also freeze it for about 2-3 months. To reheat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes.
