Ingredients

Pasta and Meat
  • 12 ounces orecchiette pasta
  • 1 pound Halal sausage (Italian or any preferred flavor)
Vegetables
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings and Oils
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) For added spice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For Serving
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional) For serving
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional) For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the orecchiette and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set it aside.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the Halal sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Stir occasionally until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and broccoli florets to the skillet. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still vibrant.
  3. Add the cooked orecchiette to the skillet, along with a little reserved pasta water. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients. If it seems dry, add more pasta water a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Sprinkle in salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using, adjusting according to your taste. Toss everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Serving
  1. Serve the pasta warm, topped with grated Parmesan and fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy the delightful balance of flavors and textures!

Notes

For substitutions, use ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option. Keep the pasta water handy for creaminess in the sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
