Ingredients

For the Marinated Mozzarella
  • 16 oz mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) for a kick
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional) for brightness

Method

Preparation
  1. Drain the mozzarella balls from their packaging and pat them gently with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a bowl, combine the extra-virgin olive oil, minced garlic, chopped basil, parsley, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, pepper, and lemon zest. Whisk it all together until well blended.
  3. Add the mozzarella balls to the bowl and carefully toss them in the marinade until they’re thoroughly coated.
Marinating
  1. Transfer the marinated mozzarella into an airtight container and pour any remaining marinade over the top. Seal the container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for a more robust flavor.
Serving
  1. Allow the marinated mozzarella to come to room temperature before serving.
  2. This dish shines best when enjoyed slightly warmed, allowing those delectable flavors to burst forth!

Notes

For best results, use high-quality mozzarella. Customize the herbs to your preference, and store leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days.
