  • 1 pound fresh spinach (washed and trimmed) Use fresh for best flavor and texture.
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil Umami-rich oil for flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Ensure it is Halal-certified.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar To balance flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic Adds a savory kick.
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds For garnish and crunch.
  • Optional sliced green onions for garnish Adds freshness and color.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Boil a large pot of water. Add spinach and blanch for approximately 30 seconds or until wilted.
  2. Drain the spinach and immediately immerse it in ice water to stop the cooking process.
  3. Once cooled, squeeze out any excess water and set aside.
Dressing
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic until well combined.
Combine and Serve
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add blanched spinach and pour the dressing over. Toss until spinach is evenly coated.
  2. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and green onions on top. Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy.

Notes

For optimal texture, do not over-blanch spinach. Customize with other nuts or vegetables if desired.
