Method
Caramelizing the Onions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and salt. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they turn a deep golden brown.
Mixing the Creamy Base
- In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until it’s creamy and smooth.
Combining the Ingredients
- Once the onions are caramelized, add them to the creamy mixture and stir until fully combined. Ensure to include all the caramelized bits for extra flavor.
Chilling and Serving
- Let the dip chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve with chips, crackers, or veggie sticks.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute half of the sour cream with Greek yogurt. Avoid rushing the caramelization of the onions to prevent a bitter taste. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for a month, thawing overnight before reheating.
