Ingredients

For the dip
  • 2 large large onions, thinly sliced Ensure onions are sliced evenly for consistent caramelization.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened Make sure cream cheese is fully softened for easier mixing.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (halal)
  • to taste Fresh herbs (such as parsley or chives) for garnish

Method

Caramelizing the Onions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and salt. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they turn a deep golden brown.
Mixing the Creamy Base
  1. In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until it’s creamy and smooth.
Combining the Ingredients
  1. Once the onions are caramelized, add them to the creamy mixture and stir until fully combined. Ensure to include all the caramelized bits for extra flavor.
Chilling and Serving
  1. Let the dip chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  2. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve with chips, crackers, or veggie sticks.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute half of the sour cream with Greek yogurt. Avoid rushing the caramelization of the onions to prevent a bitter taste. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for a month, thawing overnight before reheating.
