Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Should be at room temperature.
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract Optional for extra flavor.
Decorations
  • Food coloring For decorating.
  • Icing Can be store-bought or homemade.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg along with the vanilla extract and almond extract.
Mixing
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, beating until just combined. Do not overmix.
Chilling and Baking
  1. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  2. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space for spreading.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  4. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Decorating
  1. Once cool, decorate the cookies with colorful icing.

Notes

Chill dough well for perfect texture. Experiment with flavors and use fresh ingredients for best results. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for later use.
