Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, cooking until translucent—just 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet if necessary. Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Fold in the diced bell peppers and shredded carrots, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the veggies are tender but still crisp.
- Remove from heat and set the mixture aside.
- To serve, scoop a generous portion of the beef mixture into a lettuce leaf, top with cilantro, and enjoy!
Notes
You can swap out ground beef for turkey, chicken, or tofu for a vegetarian option. For heat, consider adding red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili oil to the beef mixture. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat before serving.
