Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups of any bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or any variety) Stale or day-old bread works best.
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder (or minced fresh garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut your bread into 1-inch cubes. If the bread is fresh, let it sit out for about 30 minutes to harden slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until the bread cubes are evenly coated.
Baking
  1. Spread the seasoned bread cubes onto a baking sheet in a single layer.
  2. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown, stirring halfway through to ensure even browning.
Cooling and Storing
  1. Once toasted, remove the croutons from the oven and let them cool completely before serving or storing.
  2. If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different herbs or spices for flavor variations. Use stale bread for the best results.
