Ingredients
  

Main ingredients
  • 6 pounds apples, preferably a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Fuji and Granny Smith Wash, peel, core, and chop before cooking.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Adjust based on your sweetness preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash, peel, core, and chop your apples into small pieces.
Mixing
  1. Place the chopped apples in your Crock Pot. Add the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir everything together until well combined.
Cooking
  1. Cover the Crock Pot and set it to low heat. Allow the mixture to cook for about 10 hours.
  2. After 10 hours, the mixture should be thickened and caramelized. Blend until smooth using an immersion blender or a regular blender.
  3. If your apple butter isn’t thick enough, return it to the Crock Pot and continue cooking on high for an additional 1-2 hours, uncovered.
Canning
  1. Ladle the apple butter into sterilized canning jars, leaving about a 1/4-inch headspace. Seal with lids and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

Notes

For optimal results, mix different types of apples, adjust sugar based on sweetness, and remember to sterilize canning jars properly.
