Ingredients

For the fries
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared using halal butter) Ensure they are fluffy and free from lumps.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup grated halal cheese (e.g., mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil) Ensure enough oil to submerge the fries halfway.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin with your cooked and cooled mashed potatoes. Ensure they are fluffy and free from lumps. If desired, add salt, pepper, and a bit of halal butter for additional flavor.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with flour, cheese, garlic powder, and onion powder. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until everything comes together into a soft dough.
  3. Take small portions of the potato mixture and shape them into fries or sticks. Aim for a consistent size to ensure even cooking.
  4. In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat oil over medium-high heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the fries in the oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Remove the crispy fries from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use chilled mashed potatoes for easier shaping and less likelihood of falling apart. Experiment with seasonings like paprika or fresh parsley for new flavors. For a healthier option, bake them instead of frying.
