Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 1 pound beef steak (sirloin or flank, sliced thinly) Slice against the grain for tenderness.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Coat beef slices for crispiness.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Or your preferred cooking oil.
For the Vegetables
  • 1 medium bell pepper (red, green, or yellow, sliced) Add color and crunch.
  • 1 medium onion (sliced) Enhances flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced) Adds fragrance and depth.
For the Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Or a low-sodium alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce Optional for added depth.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Balances the flavors.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • A pinch of black pepper For seasoning.

Method

Preparation
  1. Slice your beef thinly against the grain. Toss with cornstarch until well coated.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the beef in a single layer and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until crispy and browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil, then add bell pepper and onion. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the pan. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine well and heat through for another minute.
  5. Serve hot, over a bed of steamed rice or as is.

Notes

Cut against the grain for tender beef. Marinate beef with soy sauce for enhanced flavor; don't overcrowd the pan.
