Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound Italian sausage mild or spicy
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces spaghetti uncooked
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the Sausage:
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  • Add the Italian sausage, breaking it into small crumbles with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5–7 minutes.
  • Remove excess grease if needed.
  • Sauté Aromatics:
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add Liquids and Seasoning:
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, chicken broth, heavy cream, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  • Cook the Spaghetti:
  • Break the spaghetti in half and add it to the pot, making sure it is submerged in the sauce.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes or until the spaghetti is tender and cooked through.
  • Finish the Dish:
  • Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and black pepper.
  • Serve:
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional Parmesan cheese.
