  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces spaghetti uncooked
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Equipment

  • Large, deep skillet or Dutch oven with a lid
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board and knife

Method

  1. Cook the Sausage:
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  3. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it into small crumbles with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Remove excess grease if needed.
  5. Sauté Aromatics:
  6. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes.
  7. Add Liquids and Seasoning:
  8. Stir in the marinara sauce, chicken broth, heavy cream, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  9. Cook the Spaghetti:
  10. Break the spaghetti in half and add it to the pot, making sure it is submerged in the sauce.
  11. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes or until the spaghetti is tender and cooked through.
  12. Finish the Dish:
  13. Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
  14. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and black pepper.
  15. Serve:
  16. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional Parmesan cheese.
  17. Serve hot and enjoy!
