Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe
This cream cheese frosting recipe is smooth, creamy, and perfectly tangy. Ideal for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more, it’s a versatile and delicious finishing touch.
- 8 ounces 1 block cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Prepare Ingredients:
Ensure both the cream cheese and butter are softened to room temperature for easy blending and a smooth consistency.
Mix the Base:
In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
Add Sugar and Flavoring:
Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to avoid splattering.
Add the vanilla extract and salt, then increase the speed to medium-high and beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
Adjust Consistency:
If the frosting is too thick, add 1–2 teaspoons of milk or heavy cream to thin it. If it’s too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar.
Use Immediately or Store:
Spread or pipe the frosting onto your baked goods. If not using immediately, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Allow it to come to room temperature and re-whip before using.
