Ingredients

Filling Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 unit onion, chopped
  • 2 units carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup beef broth (Halal-friendly)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (Halal-friendly)
Mashed Potatoes Ingredients
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (made with garlic)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • to taste salt and pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the ground beef or lamb for about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Stir well and sauté for approximately 5 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and add tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes and then add peas, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. While the filling simmers, prepare your mashed potatoes by combining them with butter, heavy cream, and garlic. Mix until smooth.
  6. In an oven-safe dish, layer the meat filling at the bottom and carefully spread the creamy mashed potatoes on top.
Baking and Serving
  1. Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes turn golden brown.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your cozy meal!

Notes

For healthier alternatives, consider using ground turkey or chicken instead of beef/lamb or vegan ground meat. Avoid overmixing the mashed potatoes to prevent a gluey texture. Starchy potatoes like Russet are recommended for the best mashed potatoes.
