Classic Deep Dish Pizza Recipe – A Slice of Comfort

Ingredients
  

  • For the Dough
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast 1 packet
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water 110°F
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Pizza
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup cooked Italian sausage or pepperoni optional
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms bell peppers, or other toppings (optional)
  • Fresh basil for garnish optional

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and melted butter.
  • Mix until the dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Make the Sauce
  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool.
  • Preheat Oven
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Assemble the Pizza
  • Grease a deep-dish pizza pan or a 9-inch cake pan with butter or olive oil.
  • Roll out the dough into a large circle and press it into the pan, ensuring the dough goes up the sides to form a crust.
  • Layer shredded mozzarella on the bottom, followed by cooked sausage, pepperoni, and veggies (if using).
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the toppings and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake the Pizza
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  • Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
