- Gather all your ingredients and have everything ready, as the process moves quickly.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the granulated sugar. Stir continuously with a rubber spatula or a wooden spoon until the sugar melts completely.
- Once the sugar is fully melted and has turned a light amber color, carefully add the butter pieces. Stir continuously until the butter is fully melted and combined.
- Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Keep stirring until everything is well blended and the caramel is smooth.
- If desired, stir in the salt and vanilla extract for added flavor.
- Allow the caramel sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a glass jar or airtight container.
- Let it cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating.
Notes
Keep an eye on the sugar while it melts; use a heavy-bottomed pan to distribute heat evenly. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to two weeks. Reheat if necessary before use.
