Method
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.
- Take a slice of thick bread and spread a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture on one side. Place another slice on top to form a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining slices.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and salt.
Cooking
- Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated and slightly soaked.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Cook each sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crisp.
- In a shallow dish, mix the granulated sugar and remaining cinnamon. Once cooked, roll each slice of French toast in this mixture.
Serving
- Serve warm with maple syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
Notes
If cream cheese isn't preferred, substitute it with ricotta or mascarpone. Avoid over-soaking the bread to maintain its texture. Cook on medium heat to prevent burning.
