Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork. Add the melted butter and mix well. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the baking soda, salt, and all-purpose flour. Gradually add this mixture to the banana mixture and stir until just combined.
- Take 1/3 of the banana batter and mix in the cocoa powder until well blended to prepare the chocolate batter.
Marbling the Batter
- In your prepared loaf pan, pour half of the plain banana batter. Add half of the chocolate batter, then swirl the two together using a knife. Repeat with the remaining batters.
- If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
Baking
- Place the loaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
Use overripe bananas for the best flavor and sweetness. Don't overmix the batter; lumps are okay! You can add walnuts or pecans for added texture. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. To freeze, slice, wrap each slice tightly in plastic wrap, and place in a zip-top freezer bag.
