Preparation
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or ground chicken). Cook until browned, breaking it into smaller pieces for about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the diced onion and bell pepper, cooking for another 2–3 minutes until softened. Add the taco seasoning, mixing well, and let it cook according to package instructions, usually another 2–3 minutes.
- Place a tortilla on a clean surface. Add a generous spoonful of the meat mixture, then sprinkle cheese over the top. Roll the tortilla tightly from one end to the other, sealing the filling inside.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Carefully add the rolled tortillas seam side down. Fry for 3–4 minutes until golden brown and crispy, then turn and fry the other side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serving
- Slice each roll into sticks and serve warm with your choice of toppings like sour cream, salsa, or fresh lettuce.
Notes
For substitutions, any halal ground meat works beautifully, including turkey or a plant-based alternative. Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a perfect crunch. Store any uneaten sticks wrapped in foil or an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes for crispiness.
