Preparation
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, and milk. Use your hands to mix until just combined—don’t overwork it!
- Shape the Meatloaf: On a parchment-lined baking sheet, shape half the meat mixture into a rectangle, about 1-inch thick.
- Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the meat rectangle.
- Roll It Up: Carefully lift the edges of the meat and roll it up jelly-roll style, enclosing the cheese. Pinch the seams to seal.
- Add Topping: Place the meatloaf seam-side down on the baking sheet. Top with ketchup if desired.
Cooking
- Bake: Bake for about 45-55 minutes or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
- Rest and Serve: Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs for a pop of color!
Notes
Experiment with different types of cheese for unique flavors. Ensure the meatloaf stays moist by using milk and consider adding finely chopped vegetables for extra moisture.
