Ingredients

Meat Mixture
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (or your preferred substitute)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 0.25 cup milk
Topping (Optional)
  • 0.5 cup ketchup (for topping, optional)
Garnish
  • to taste Fresh herbs (parsley) (for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, and milk. Use your hands to mix until just combined—don’t overwork it!
  3. Shape the Meatloaf: On a parchment-lined baking sheet, shape half the meat mixture into a rectangle, about 1-inch thick.
  4. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the meat rectangle.
  5. Roll It Up: Carefully lift the edges of the meat and roll it up jelly-roll style, enclosing the cheese. Pinch the seams to seal.
  6. Add Topping: Place the meatloaf seam-side down on the baking sheet. Top with ketchup if desired.
Cooking
  1. Bake: Bake for about 45-55 minutes or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  2. Rest and Serve: Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs for a pop of color!

Notes

Experiment with different types of cheese for unique flavors. Ensure the meatloaf stays moist by using milk and consider adding finely chopped vegetables for extra moisture.
