Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, gouda, or your favorite)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) adds a kick

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a rapid boil.
  • Once boiling, add flour all at once, stirring vigorously until the mixture forms a ball.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  • Stir in the shredded cheese and mix until combined.
  • Using a spoon or piping bag, scoop out small portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space in between for them to expand.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the puffs have risen and turned a lovely golden-brown color.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your cheese puffs warm alongside your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

To ensure your cheese puffs turn out perfectly, let your dough cool before adding the eggs to avoid scrambled eggs. Avoid opening the oven during baking to maintain that lovely puff. After cooking, if you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-10 minutes.
