Ingredients

Bunny Buns Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warm (not hot) Ensure it's around 100°F (38°C) for activating yeast.
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional) For coloring the buns.
  • Chocolate chips (for the eyes) Optional decoration.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Mix until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, stirring with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball. For bunny shapes, take one ball and shape it into an oval for the body. Then, form two smaller ovals for the ears and attach them to the body gently.
  2. Place the shaped buns on a lined baking sheet, cover them again, and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Once cooled, you can add chocolate chips for eyes or use icing to create a colorful decoration.
Serving
  1. Serve warm and enjoy these delightful Bunny Buns with your loved ones!

Notes

Substitutions: If you want to make these buns dairy-free, substitute the milk with a plant-based alternative, like almond or oat milk. You can also use coconut oil instead of butter. Ensure the warm milk for activating the yeast isn’t too hot, as this can kill the yeast. If your dough isn’t rising well, try placing it in a warm area. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
